Mary Pollitz joined the Office of Public Affairs in June 2024 as a multimedia communications specialist. In her role, she writes news releases and features about Mississippi State University’s many students, faculty, staff and programs.

The Picayune native previously served as the public information officer for the Columbus Municipal School District for three years.  Prior, she was a journalist with The Commercial Dispatch, covering an array of education, breaking news and local government stories. She currently writes a weekly column that focusses on business developments, changes and updates in the Golden Triangle.

Pollitz earned a bachelor’s degree in communication, with a journalism concentration, from MSU in 2016.

She enjoys watching MSU sports, hiking, and camping in her spare time. Her wife, Devan Torrence, is an English instructor at the university and they live in Starkville with their pets and plants. They are active members of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
